| | | | Cholesterol Blocker and Lipids | |
Article By Mark Timon, M.S. Clinical Nutrition 19 May 2010 | | Filed under:
cholesterol, general health | | | I was recently asked whether plant sterols could possibly block lipid absorption as well as cholesterol. The answer is unequivocally no. Absorption studies were first conducted on phytosterols in the 1950’s. By 1955 researchers were conducting human tests where up to 54 grams of phytosterols were ingested a day followed by rigorous fecal and blood studies. This research determined that phytosterols only block the absorption of cholesterol, allowing all other fat soluble vitamins and essential fatty acids to be absorbed uninhibited.
